A Year of Change, Challenge, and Triumph: My Journey

As the year winds down, it's a good time to reflect on the tumultuous yet triumphant journey I've had. It’s been a year of significant changes, faced challenges head-on, and celebrated many wins along the way.

Embracing Change: A Choice to Live with Family

At 53, having been single since turning 50, I made a deliberate choice to move in with my children. This decision was driven by a desire to be with my family and share expenses which mutually benefited us all from living together, after all, life has become expensive in Canada! Transitioning from living alone in a spacious environment where I was the master of my domain to sharing a bustling household with seven other people was no small feat. The early days were filled with an overwhelming sense of loss over my quiet independence. The constant noise, movement, and chaos of a multi-generational home spiked my anxiety. I found myself retreating to my room, seeking solace in solitude and tears, as I grappled with the lack of control over our shared spaces.

Learning and Growing: The Power of Resilience

However, as the year progressed, I learned a valuable lesson about human resilience and our incredible ability to adapt. My room became my sanctuary where I engaged in meditation and breathwork, practices that I had cultivated while living alone. I invested in quality headphones that became my shield against the noise, and gradually, I learned to tune out the background sounds of daily life in our lively home.

Reconnecting: The Challenge of Building Relationships

Living abroad in a hyper social society had its perks, but returning to Canada brought about its own set of challenges, especially in making new connections. The social climate here seemed more cautious, and at times, not as open as I remembered. Despite these hurdles, my outgoing nature helped me engage in fleeting yet fulfilling interactions. However, extending these into deeper relationships proved difficult due to distance, timing, or simply a mutual lack of sustained interest. On the dating front, I've taken a step back, content with the idea that finding love isn't a priority—at least for now.

Wins and Achievements: Advancements and Aspirations

This year was not just about personal adjustments; it was also a year of significant professional and technological advancements. I dedicated myself to overcoming the "I can't" mindset, embracing a spirit of "I can and I will learn." With endless information available online, I explored various courses, enhancing my skills and embracing lifelong learning as a core part of my identity.

Excitingly, I tackled my imposter syndrome, acknowledging the extensive experience I possess in coaching, counseling, facilitating learning and leadership. This realization reignited my passion for helping others, leading to the formal launch of Resilient Pathway Coaching. Additionally, I ventured into the world of book publishing, launching a variety of books aimed at motivating and inspiring others. These books are now available on Amazon, and this journey involved mastering new skills—from art and writing to navigating the technology required to become a seller of my works. It's never too late to learn new skills!

I've also started putting myself out there more proactively, especially in-person networking and on social media platforms, and am in the midst of launching a YouTube channel, 'Resilient Beyond 50,' aimed at empowering others in their middle years.

Looking Ahead: Self-Love and Determination

As we approach the new year, I encourage everyone to embrace self-love and determination. Start with a vision board or simply a letter to yourself listing your goals for the upcoming year. This past year has shown me how much growth is possible when we commit to our paths and push through the challenges.

I am incredibly proud of what I've accomplished and how I've grown. It's empowering to say, "I am proud of myself." As you look forward to the new year, remember that no matter the changes or challenges, you can achieve great things. If you ever need a coach to guide you through, I’m here to help you navigate and succeed.

Happy New Year to all, and may your upcoming year be filled with success and joy! Cheers to finding resilience and fulfillment in every step of your journey.
